Use this site and our services respectfully, and in the spirit they're offered: as an inclusive, lived-experience-led space for research and community. Don't misuse it, don't misrepresent us, and let us know if something's not accessible so we can fix it. If you take part in research, separate consent terms apply and always take priority over anything generic here.

1. About us

Digital Diversity Living Lab (DDLL) is a non-profit research and development lab focused on inclusive digital systems, co-produced with disabled and neurodivergent people. These terms govern your use of our website at https://digitaldiversitylab.org and any related services, community spaces, or events (together, "the Services").

By using the Services, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Services ā€” and let us know why, we'd rather hear it.

2. Who can use our Services

You must be 13 or older to use the Services. If you're between 13ā€“18, please have a parent or guardian's awareness when joining research studies or providing personal data.

3. Accounts

If you create an account with us:

  • Keep your login details secure and don't share them.
  • Tell us straight away if you think your account has been accessed without permission.
  • You're responsible for what happens under your account, within reason ā€” we won't hold you liable for anything a stranger did after a breach you reported promptly.

4. How we expect you to use the Services

We ask that you don't:

  • Use the Services for anything unlawful, harassing, discriminatory, or harmful ā€” this very much includes ableist, sexist, racist, or otherwise discriminatory conduct towards other users.
  • Misrepresent yourself, DDLL, or your relationship to us.
  • Attempt to access parts of the Services you're not authorised to, or disrupt their operation (e.g. through malware, scraping at scale, or security testing without our permission).
  • Reuse or republish content from our Services for commercial purposes without asking us first.

If you breach these terms, we may suspend or end your access. We'll always try to talk to you first unless there's a safeguarding or security reason not to.

5. Research participation

Some of what we do involves research studies, workshops, or co-production activities. Where that's the case:

  • You'll be given separate, specific information and consent forms for that activity, covering what data is collected, how it's used, and how to withdraw.
  • Those study-specific terms take priority over this general document if the two ever conflict.
  • Our Privacy Policy explains in general terms how we handle research data, including special category data such as health or disability information.

6. Intellectual property

  • Content we create (site text, reports, published research outputs) is provided as open-access and with a Creative Commons licence CC BY-NC 4.0. See https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/ for details.
  • Content you contribute (e.g. forum posts, workshop feedback, survey responses) remains yours. By submitting it, you give us permission to use it for the purpose you submitted it for (e.g. inclusion in a research report), as described in the relevant consent information.
  • We respect others' intellectual property and expect the same from you when using our Services.

7. Accessibility

Accessibility isn't an afterthought for us ā€” it's the point. If any part of our Services is difficult for you to use, please tell us at info@digitaldiversitylab.org. We aim to:

  • Respond to accessibility issues promptly.
  • Provide information in alternative formats on request (e.g. Easy Read, large print, audio).
  • Treat accessibility feedback as valuable input, not a complaint to manage.

8. Disclaimers

  • We provide the Services on an "as is" basis. While we take care to keep information accurate, we can't guarantee it's error-free or that the Services will be uninterrupted.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for things the law doesn't allow us to limit (e.g. death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud).
  • Beyond that, DDLL isn't liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses arising from your use of the Services.

Our Services may link to third-party sites (e.g. partner organisations, funders). We're not responsible for their content or practices ā€” check their own terms and privacy policies.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally to reflect changes in our Services or the law. We'll post the updated date at the top, and for significant changes, try to let you know directly (e.g. via email or a site notice).

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any disputes will be handled in the courts of England and Wales.
